Listen, it’s understandable why tons of people are freaking out about the new Instagram algorithm update heading our way. If you aren’t familiar with what the new updates will change – We will explain it in as short a way as possible.

After Update:

The top 30% most interacted(includes likes, comments, views etc) content in your news feed will be moved to the very top regardless of when it was posted within 24-48 hours.

Basically, what this means, is that whatever picture Instagram considers the “best post” will be moved up to the top of your feed and will be what you will see first.


60 Second videos(Already implemented) – You are now allowed to post videos up to 60 seconds long, which is double than what was previously allowed.

This, in our opinion, is an effort by Instagram to combat the growing popularity of the new “Big Kid” on the block: Snapchat. It’s no secret that Snapchat is growing incredibly fast thanks to major influencers alongside, the way it pushes for true authenticity and transparency. Changes like these are going to define whether Instagram stays on top 12 – 24 months from now. An easy example of what happens when you don’t react to the market changing or being affected by other apps was seen by Twitter and its unfortunate decline in popularity.


Notifications will be valued much more.

You also have the ability to now turn on notifications for the people or brands you follow; eliminating the possibility of missing a post by them. This makes sure that your largest demographic or “super fans” will always be notified as soon as possible whenever you post new content.
